Business Description
HAVENS MALCZYNSKI GRIGOLLA, LLP was started in 1987 by Citrus College Professor of Psychology Jerry Newell, who began practicing law as a solo practitioner. He continued solo until 1998 when Cloyd Havens II joined him as a clerk while awaiting his bar results. The two hit it off, and Jerry mentored Cloyd in family dynamics and the labyrinthine processes of probate and estate law in Los Angeles County. Cloyd brought an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Redlands, and his Juris Doctorate (cum laude) from Western State University College of Law, where Jerry had also earned his J.D. Cloyd had also been a businessman in Glendora for 16 years prior to returning to college, so his experience in the world of business added a new dimension to the practice. They officially became partners in 1999. Jerry retired in 2002 and is now “of counsel” at the firm.
Cloyd discovered a love and talent for teaching while tutoring students in law school. He has been an adjunct professor, teaching classes in Business Law, Human Resources, and Negotiation, at Azusa Pacific University for more than fifteen years. He uses his ability to teach to translate the complex jargon of the legal profession into plain English for his clients so that they have a clear understanding of their situations.
Cloyd is admitted to practice before all state courts in California as well as the United States District in the Central District of California.
Cloyd has been married for 31 years and has two sons. He sings in his church choir and a gospel quartet, and enjoys woodworking and riding his motorcycle.
