After Nikah, Pakistani law requires couples to register their marriage within 30 days with the local union council or NADRA. At NADRA e-Sahulat centers, the original nikah nama along with copies of spouse CNICs and the marriage registration form providing names, dates of birth and nikah details are submitted. NADRA verifies the documents and issues a computerized marriage certificate containing a unique number within 2 weeks for a Rs.1000 fee. It provides legal proof of marital status in Pakistan and abroad after attestation. The certificate is necessary for divorce cases and applications like spouse visas and its authenticated version through Foreign Affairs ministry is valid globally.
