Nippert Stadium has gained a reputation as a challenging place for opponents to play. In 2013, a national columnist described Nippert Stadium as a "quaint bowl of angry noise sitting under the gaze of remarkable architecture" and compared it to a "baby Death Valley" (referring to LSU's notoriously intimidating Tiger Stadium). USA Today also named Nippert Stadium the best football venue in what was then the Big East Conference in 2012.
