Retreatment for lice should only be considered if live lice are found on the head 7–10 days after the initial treatment and there is evidence that the initial treatment was properly applied and followed. A “fresh head” is one that has not been treated with a pediculicide in the past 7 days. If nits are found within 1 cm of the scalp, they may still be viable and retreatment should be considered.
